Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia - 40th Anniversary

One of the University’s most renowned music ensembles celebrates a milestone anniversary this year. The Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia (formerly the Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra), conducted by Music Director Kate Tamarkin, kicked off its 40th Anniversary Season with a free outdoor pops concert, Symphony Under the Stars, in the U.Va. Amphitheater. Titled All That Jazz, the program featured a guest appearance by the Free Bridge Quintet. Other fall highlights included the world premiere performance of an anniversary fanfare commissioned from composer Randol Alan Bass; Principal Percussionist and U.Va Percussion Instructor I-Jen Fang’s dazzling performances of a marimba concerto; and Score One for the Orchestra! - a pair of football-themed concerts for fourth and fifth graders featuring former Hoos quarterback Matt Blundin as the guest narrator and recently-appointed Principal Trumpet Christopher Buchanan as soloist.
