Arts Endowment Award: Digital Media Design and Dance
A new collaboration between Digital Media Design Professor Mona Kasra (Department of Drama), PhD candidate Kristina Warren (McIntire Department of Music) and Kim Brooks Mata, Head and Artistic Director of the Dance program (Department of Drama), will break down the walls between performers and audience in an effort to explore the contemporary manifestations of identity, and to shed new light on the journey toward self-representation and self-discovery in the digital age. The cross-disciplinary collaboration will allow students to reimagine the possibilities of incorporating digital media into live action performance. Audiences will be invited into an immersive and dynamic experience that will at times invite them to enter the work itself in order to view and experience it from a variety of perspectives. This fall, a prominent scholar in performance studies will be on Grounds to offer a lecture and workshop on the topics covered in the project. In the spring of 2016, the project will be supported by guest artist-in-residence Kyle Abraham and his company, Abraham.In.Motion, who will offer a workshop on the performance of identity.
