Renowned Artist Thomas Struth
The School of Architecture and the Studio Art Department recently co-sponsored a visit by German photographer Thomas Struth, widely regarded as one of the most influentialartists working today. Struth is perhaps best known for his cityscapes and his remarkable examinations of the relationships between people in urban and museum spaces. This series included celebrated projects that highlighted New York, Tokyo, Berlin, Dusseldorf, and Chicago. Professor William Wylie, Associate Chair of Studio Art/Photography and Associate Professor Nana Last in the School of Architecture were the faculty co-sponsors of the event along with the Office of the Provost and the Vice Provost for the Arts. During his visit, Struth gave a public talk to a packed auditorium as a three –way conversation with Wylie and Last and met with students both individually and in small classes to discuss his creative work and career. Last is currently completing a manuscript of Struth’s work, entitled “From Both Sides: Thomas Struth, Architecture and Photography.”
