O RECORDS: EXPANDING ON A MUSICAL TRADITION

Learn More!

O Records is a group of musicians, vocalists, rappers, songwriters, producers, graphic artists, and more.  We record and promote student artists, connect them with performance opportunities, and provide rehearsal space and equipment.

The only thing better than getting a great mixtape that captures a wide range of musical genres, talents and styles is... getting two of them! And that is exactly what O Records has in store for music fans on Grounds and beyond this year when they double down on their popular annual tradition by producing a compilation of original student music each semester of the upcoming academic year. Launched in 2004 with a primary concentration on promoting student hip hop performers, the entirely student-operated O Records has expanded its artistic reach to include all forms of music. O Records offers the entire gamut of record company support, ranging from rehearsal to engineering to audio setups, even mixing and mastering. In addition to its production support, O Records offers student musicians a variety of live performance opportunities throughout the year, ranging from an open mic held at OpenGrounds every other Thursday. This combination of live and recorded performance opportunities not only gives students plenty of opportunities to hone their crafts, but also encourages plenty of collaboration, spawning a growing collection of local bands, including Post Sixty Five, The Smiling Islanders along with Erin and the Wildfire, which last September was selected to perform on the Main Stage at the Lockn’ Festival, joining a roster of bands and artists that included The Allman Brothers, Willie Nelson and Tom Petty, among many others.
