On Saturday, December 6th, the Department of Architectural History hosted a conference to celebrate a trio of milestones: the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the MA in Architectural History or ARH (1964); the 56th Anniversary of the BA degree in ARH (1958), and the 25th anniversary of the Ph.D. in ARH (1989). The day appropriately looked both to the past and the future, with panel discussions and Q and A’s led by ARH faculty, lightning presentation rounds by current Masters degree candidates on their research, and exclusive hard hat tours of the Rotunda. The day concluded with a reception in historic Pavilion VII, which was highlighted by the announcement of a matching grant challenge of $100,000 to endow a Richard Guy Wilson Fellowship in Architectural History in the School. As one of the School of Architecture’s most senior faculty members, Wilson has helped to train hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students in the fields of architectural history and historic preservation. His former students now play leading roles in private firms, public offices, and private non-profit organizations across the country and around the world.
