Marching for Millions: Hoos on Parade

Next November, for one special morning, the Cavalier Marching Band will trade the turf of Scott Stadium for some of the most famous streets in the world when it takes to the avenues of New York for the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band was chosen as one of only nine marching bands to participate in the event, and will be parading alongside iconic event staples including floats, giant character balloons and some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. The Parade, first held in 1924, regularly draws more than 3.5 million live spectators and more than 50 million television viewers around the world. “With just a decade of experience, the Cavalier Marching Band has garnered a national reputation due to its excellent marching and performance skill,” said Wesley Whatley, creative director of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “Macy’s Band Committee is proud to have such a fine institution representing the state of Virginia in the 2015 Parade.” U.Va. Director of Bands William Pease said he is proud of his band members, who have earned themselves a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “Our current and former members worked very hard to raise the level of our band to receive this national recognition, and we thank everyone for their support.”
